Michelangelo and the Sistine Chapel – Preparatory Drawings

"Michelangelo and the Sistine Chapel" - Georgian National Museum and the Embassy of Italy to Georgia present the exhibition of preparatory drawings by Michelangelo Buonarroti.
From February 2 to April 3, GNM Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery will host the exhibition of 6 graphic works by Italian artist, sculptor, architect and poet of the Renaissance epoch - Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564). The artworks are preserved at the "Casa Buonarroti" museum, which, along with Michelangelo's other masterpieces, houses more than 200 preparatory drawings and manuscripts, images, sculptures and rich archeological collections possessed by various generations of Buonarroti family.
Michelangelo, recognized as the greatest artist of all time, thanks to his outstanding virtue and masterful technique, alternated with the widely crusted artistic principles and for good gained a solid ground among other geniuses.
The National Gallery will showcase graphic works performed by Michelangelo in 1508-1510, during his work on the Sistine Chapel (1508-1510).
Visitors will have the possibility to view the graphic details, including the hand from the fresco "Creation of Adam" and figures from the fresco "The Fall of Man and the Expulsion from the Garden of Eden". The exposition will also incorporate multimedia, as well as the screening of the film "Journey to Discover Michelangelo."
The exhibition, organized by the Georgian National Museum and the Embassy of Italy to Georgia, is a consequence of close cooperation between the various institutions. From Georgia: Ministry of Culture and Sport of Georgia, Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Georgian National Tourism Administration, Governmental project "Check in Georgia" and JSC VTB Bank Georgia; From Italy: Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, program „VivereALL'italiana".
The exhibition is implemented in cooperation with "Casa Buonarroti" museum and cultural association "Metamorfosi".
