Exhibition “New Life to the Oriental Collections”

The Simon Janashia Museum of Georgia presents the Exhibition "New Life to the Oriental Collections" exhibition will present masterpieces of oriental collection preserved at Sh. Amiranashvili Museum of Fine Arts of Georgian National Museum.

During many years the inappropriate environment for objects in Sh. Amiranashvili Museum of Fine Arts caused many type of bio-bacterial damage. Museum processed damaged objects of oriental collection by anoxic treatment, cleaned, made full inventory and inputted in digital format. After works were carried out collections were stored in new storages of the museum before the preparation of the exhibition.

Museum visitors have an opportunity to see significant examples of oriental collections featuring up to 180 objects of Egyptian, Islamic world and Far East culture preserved in our collections: Egyptian mummy and sarcophagus, Koran page on oil paper dated by VIII century, examples of easel, miniature and lacquer painting, metal and ceramic dishes, objects of ritual meaning, adorned battle weapons of precious metal and others.

Exhibition is accompanied by the catalogue in Georgian and English languages.

The project has been carried out within the framework of ENPI (European Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument) program of the EU. It has been administered by the GIZ (Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit).
