Georgian National Museum and Italian embassy in Georgia this time presents the founder of the Metaphysical painting – Giorgio de Chirico (1888-1978) at Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery from March 27.

De Chirico's metaphysical painting is considered as one of the greatest backgrounds of the surrealist movement. The structure of cities, the architecture of houses, squares, gardens, public walks, gateways, railway stations are expressed with the bright light, sharp shades, clear colors and feels like, he establishes the ideal of eternal forms. Artist's works often display the motifs of antique and renaissance.

Italian artist uses the principles of esotericism in his artworks and cannot resist the enigmatic content – he handled to add the secret meaning to the lifeless things, which is evident in his first metaphysical work "The Enigma of an Autumn Afternoon".

The exhibition “Esoteric De Chirico. Traveler between Two Worlds” will showcase fifteen artworks of Giorgio de Chirico between the following time period: 1920-1970. The exposition clearly represents that artist’s even the most “natural” artwork indicates to the surrealist world.

Italian Embassy in Georgia is the coordinator of Italian exhibitions in Georgia. Above mentioned exhibition cycle is the result of close cooperation between different institutions of two countries: From Italy - Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and program "VivereALL'Italiana”. From Georgia - Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia and Georgian National Museum. The exhibition is held in cooperation with the Italian Cultural Association "MetaMorfosi".
