Ketevan Matabeli - Retrospective Exhibition

Georgian National Museum Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery invites you at the Ketevan Matabeli's retrospective exhibition. Opening event will take place on December 9 at 7 p.m.  

Ketevan Matabeli is a painter and graphic artist, and the author of numerous collages and assemblages. She is a laureate of the Shota Rustaveli Award, and an Honoured Citizen of Tbilisi. She graduated from the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts in 1978, and has been a member of the Georgian Union of Artists since 1984.

This exhibition, for the first time ever, features examples of every step of Ketevan Matabeli's creative career. Exhibition will showcase abstract assemblages, handmade books and landscapes of the old Tbilisi created according to old pictures; Also collages inspired by the theme of chess, cards and domino. Exposition will feature an installation.

Author created her own, unique technique of working with collages in order to express her thoughts and emotions. Her works are somehow inspired by famous poets and writers, such as Galaktioni, Bulgakov, Maeterlinck and mostly by Rustaveli. Her artistic findings take roots in family relics. Originality of artist's work is in her ability to touch the past and transform it into an inspiration.

Exhibition will last until December 20.

Two programs will take place in the framework of the exhibition:

December 12 at 1 p.m.

Workshop by Ketevan Matabeli. Children will create decorations for the Christmas tree in the collage technique. Age group: from 7 years.

December 19 at 3 p.m.

Art critic Ketevan Kintsurashvili will speak about Ketevan Matabeli's art. Workshop by Ketevan Matabeli. Age group: from 14 years.
